Known to the public as the Minister of Education from 2009 to 2011, the San Sebastián-born 66 year-old Ángel Gabilondo excelled as a professor and as the rector of the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), and as the President of the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities.

From his time in the congregation of the Sacred Heart (he taught at their schools) to his time as a student at the UAM, where he studied a Philosophy and Humanities degree and a doctorate with individual outstanding. At this institution, he has developed much of his educational career, and since 2001 he is Professor of Philosophy there. An awarded teacher and a great communicator in the field of philosophy, he has written six books and participated in other works, also for translation or editing. Among his writings, ‘Endlessly’, ‘Just in Case’ or ‘Get Reading’ have garnered wide acceptance.

I am pleased to include on this post some of his aphorisms and ideas in reference to education:

I am pleased to include in this post some of his aphorisms and ideas in reference to education:

Without horizons I cannot see even close.

No sense of humour implies the other senses are vulgar.

The numbers are even or odd. Loneliness is too.

If in doubt, not everything is wrong.

If we lack the word, we cannot be found.

Being good seems to be more shameful than being not.

A maximum requires intensity; A minimum, curiosity.

Will to know and will to say, that’s living.

The real thirst is never quenched.

What is not evaluated is devalued.

Excellence from equity. Excellence is always equity with quality.

We are educated by contagion.

I wish you a happy week,
