AWAKENING

AWAKENING

A couple of months ago, after a time of personal change, a friend shared this with me. It’s revealing, not only of the process he was going through, but of any process of personal change that really deserves that name.

It’s a quote by Karl Gustav Jung, and it goes like this:

“There is no coming to consciousness without pain. People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own soul. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.”

Like all Jung’s aphorisms, it’s brief, to the point and clear; it’s true.

The sentence “People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own soul,” seems especially significant to me. Yes, they will.

Because consciousness doesn’t come for free. We’re born women and men, but becoming human in the full sense of the word is a conquest. A conquest of your own soul.

I hope it inspires you.

And thanks, David.

Hugs, kisses,

Álex
