Sam is just eleven years old, and very fond of his granddad, whom he lives with in a house on the edge of a deep, inhospitable forest. When the old man dies, he asks the boy to follow the dream that has guided his life: to find the mysterious Master of the Forest, a shadowy presence who lives beyond the paths of men. The legend promises that the dark Master knows all the answers; but also that those who go in search of him will be struck down if they are not ready for the encounter. Sam travels into the Forbidden Wood, where all kinds of adventures await him, and where he will be taught the secrets of the art of living as he searches for the One –angel or devil– who knows all the answers.
