IT IS LOVE

IT IS LOVE

This week I want to refresh it a bit with a new post style.

Thus, I decided to share aphorisms. Short sentences, pieces of conversations that I have found in novels and excerpts from essays. A little of each genre.

Each and every one of them are to me of great beauty and depth. So I want to share them.

They have a common factor: they speak of love.

Eighteen little gems, lucid eighteen strings of words that, properly understood and applied, could change the world.

I hope you like them.

Hugs and kisses,

Álex

“A coward is incapable of showing love, doing it is reserved for the brave.”

MAHATMA GANDHI

“Without humility there is neither love nor courage.”

Z. BAUMAN

“To know and to love another human being, even if it is only one, is the root of all wisdom.”

EVELYN WAUGH, ‘Brideshead Revisited’.

“Being dependent creates fear. If I depend on you emotionally, psychologically or spiritually, I will be your slave and, therefore, I will fear you. It is not an opinion but a fact.”

KRISHNAMURTI

“You learn, either way, to serve truth, to open yourself up, to think about things, rather than thinking of yourself –it is the only way out of the desert.”

HERMAN HESSE

“Not being loved is a simple misfortune, the real disgrace is not to love.”

A. CAMUS

“Nobody can be fully knowledgeable about the essence of another human being if they do not love them. Even more, with love, the loving person enables the beloved to manifest their powers.”

VIKTOR FRANKL

“We make a mask to face the others’ masks. And then we wonder why we do not have someone to love, why we feel so alone.”

ESHIN

“There is only one means to make a person or thing beautiful: loving them.”

ROBERT MUSIL

“I found out that the more I show love to a person, the greater impact I mean on their lives.”

HOWARD G. HENDRICKS

“To change a person you must love them, we influence only to the best of our love.”

JUAN ENRIQUE PESTALOZZI

“Love seeks to understand, convince, keep it alive. For this reason, he who loves is constantly changing. He captures more, watches more, he is more prolific, more himself.”

E. FROMM

“We reject to have love and intimacy with people, as if we waited better fondness and intimacy to come. But where from? Tomorrow will be like today. We waste life as we prepare to live.”

RALPH WALDO EMERSON

“By connecting our imperfect bodies, we just can tell what we cannot tell otherwise.”

H. MURAKAMI, ‘Norwegian Wood’.

“Only the human body can be undressed, and only humans crave and need sleeping together, skin to skin, all night long.”

PASCAL QUIGNARD, ‘Secret Life’.

“But what counts on your life are some people you have met. Books, music, that is different. As enriching as they can be, they are never more than a means to reach those people.”

SEMPRÚN, ‘A Long Journey’.

“The salvation of man is through love and in love… I realized how a man, stripped of everything in this world, can still find happiness –if only for a moment– by contemplating the loved one. When a person is in a situation of utter desolation, when his only achievement may consist in enduring his sufferings properly, with dignity, that person can be held in the loving contemplation of the image of the beloved.”

VIKTOR FRANKL

“–So, I make a mistake when I’d want someone to understand me. I want you to understand me, for example.

–No, it’s not a mistake, Nagasawa said. People call it love.”

H. MURAKAMI, “Norwegian Wood”.
